Q• What is a meerkat? A• A meerkat is a 12 inch tall mammal. They are insectavors and live in mobs. They're closely related to the mongoose.
Q• How long do meerkats live? A• 8-10 years in the wild. In capitivity, they can live up to 15 years.
Q• Where do meerkats live? A• In the Savanna, and grassland regions of Africa. Where the scorpians, millipedes, centipedes, and other insects are is where they prefer to be.
Q• When can meerkats mate? A• Females come into estrus soon after they've given birth. They are sexually mature at 6 months.
Q• What is a mob (clan,gang)? A• Different words, but they all mean one thing: a family of meerkats. It involves one domoinate pair (male and female) several followers, and the dominate's offspring.
Q• Can subordinates mate? A• No. If food is scarce, a dominate female can kill subordinate's pups to save her own pups wellfare. Sometimes pregnant subordinates will be exiled, breaking meerkat law. Rarely, they will be accepted, but only during times of plenty.
